Haven't heard of the nordic noir crime drama Bordertown ("Sorjonen" in Finnish) yet? Don't worry, because you're soon bound to.
It's the first one of the successful genre that is created and filmed in Finland. And what's more, it gives you a look into the city of Lappeenranta like you haven't seen in any travel guides or brochures.
While the series soon begins to air its second season it has received international recognition and interest. Its even available on Netflix! The anticipated second season includes 10 new episodes and 5 new crimes.
So why are we telling you all this? Well, it has become more than usual to get travel inspiration from TV-series and movies.
The first season of the series was filmed in Lappeenranta in the summer of 2015, and the city offers a dizzyingly beautiful setting for an idyllic border town. Lake Saimaa, as well as the university and the city's diverse tourism destinations also get their fair share of screen time.
The first season won the Venla Award (Finnish Emmy) for the best drama series and the first episode gained over one million viewers in Finland - so also the Finns loved it.
